Dr. Seuss & the Philanthropic Fund ...

Purrfect Together!

The Paterson Education Association's Philanthropic Fund sponsors a myriad of projects including the P.E.A. Patriots little league baseball team, the Mildred L. Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund, contributes to the North Jersey News "Bear Hugs for the Holidays" program, and provides money for the high school National History Day Competition Team, Senator John Girgenti's Annual Children's Toy Drive, and funding for many other City organizations that provide scholarships to Paterson public school students.

This month, the Philanthropic Fund will donate five books to each Paterson Public School's library. Including such titles as, "One Dog, Two Dog, Three Dog, Go!, and the classic The Cat in the Hat", these Dr. Seuss books will arrive in schools just in time for the annual "Read Across America" celebration scheduled for the first week in March.

"We are thrilled to be able to donate these wonderful books to our schools in an effort to increase student literacy," commented Fund Chairperson Millie Brooks (# 26). "Getting children interested in reading has life long impact on their lives, and we at the Fund are proud that we can make these donations in conjunction with the NEA's Read Across America" program.

Money for these type of activities come from the donations of the members of the P.E.A. The Internal Revenue Service prohibits the use of dues money for these kinds of programs. so funds must be solicited separately.
