Last edition of The ADVOCATE, the P.E.A.'s Committee of Special Education, provided some sites for resources which could e of assistance to staff members. As promised, we continue this goal this month. Make your own website with little or no effort. Scholastic has done it for you. Plus, their site is full of resources, lesson plans, web quests and more. These sites are also very appropriate for educators. Look for workshops and conferences. Statewide Parent Advocacy Network, Inc. The mission of the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network, Inc. (SPAN) is to empower families, professionals and other individuals interested in the well-being and educational rights of children. SPAN's special commitment is to those children with the greatest need due to disability, poverty, discrimination based on race, sex or language, or other special needs. SPAN's goal is to enable all children to become fully participating and contributing members of society. SPAN works toward this goal by providing information, training, technical assistance, support and the exchange of ideas. SPAN's multifaceted program is carried out by a bilingual, multiracial staff of parents of children with and without disabilities. Includes many Links to Specific Disabilities/Disorders sites and organizations. New Jersey Helps. A new website which allows NJ families to confidentially find out for free, which benefits they may be eligible for. It includes food stamps, Medicaid/FamilyCare, energy assistance, TANF/GA, childcare, and kinship (grandparents etc.). The New Jersey Parents' Caucus, Inc. is a coalition of families whose mission is to ensure that every family who has children with special emotional and behavioral needs is given an opportunity to play a strong and active role in the development and delivery of effective and timely services for their children.
